Tāng zěnme yàng le?
How’s the soup coming along?
♦B:我觉得还没好。还得熬的再浓一点。
Wǒ juéde hái méi hǎo. Hái de áo de zài nóng yīdiǎn.
I don’t think it’s ready yet. It needs to thicken a bit more.
♦A:你往里面放什么调料了?
Nǐ wǎng lǐmiàn fàng shénme tiáoliào le?
What seasonings did you put in it?
♦B:我放了一点紫苏、迷迭香、百里香、盐、胡椒和一些月桂叶。
Wǒ fàng le yīdiǎn zǐ sū, mí dié xiāng, bǎi lǐxiāng, yán, hújiāo hé yīxiē yuèguì yè.
I put some basil, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, and a few bay leaves.
♦A:香料味不会太重吧?
Xiāngliào wèi bù huì tài zhòng ba?
So it’s not going to be spicy, then,right?
♦B:不会,不过味道会很鲜美。
Bù huì, bùguò wèidào huì hěn xiānměi.
No, it will be flavourful though.
♦A:你最喜欢什么味的?
Nǐ zuì xǐhuan shénme wèi de?
What’s your favourite flavour?
♦B:我喜欢吃甜的。不过做饭的时候我还是会让味道适中的。做饭的时候调料比烹饪方法要重要得多。
Wǒ xǐhuan chī tián de. Bùguò zuò fàn de shíhou wǒ háishì huì ràng wèidào shìzhòng de. Zuò fàn de shí hòu tiáoliào bǐ pēngrèn fāngfǎ yào zhòngyào dé duō.
I have quite a sweet tooth, but I like to have a balance of flavours at every meal. When it comes to cooking, using the right seasonings is more important than the way you cook.
♦A:没错。成也调料,败也调料!做沙拉用的蔬菜我已经切好了。你喜欢哪种沙拉酱?油醋汁?意式酱或者法式酱?
Méi cuò. Chéng yě tiáoliào, bài yě tiáoliào! Zuò shālā yòng de shūcài wǒ yǐjīng qiē hǎo le. Nǐ xǐhuan nǎ zhǒng shālā jiàng? Yóu cù zhī? Yì shì jiàng huòzhě fàshì jiàng?
That’s true. Spices can make or break a meal! I’m finished cutting the vegetables for the salad. Which dressing do you prefer: oil and vinegar, Italian dressing, or French dressing?
♦B:你可以往醋汁里再加一点蒜汁和少许糖,再撒上点胡椒粉和盐。
Nǐ kěyǐ wǎng cù zhī lǐ zài jiā yīdiǎn suàn zhī hé shǎoxǔ táng, zài sā shàng diǎn hújiāo fěn hé yán.
Why don’t you just mix some oil and vinegar together with some garlic and a little sugar, and sprinkle it with some salt and pepper?
♦A:好了。今天的晚餐将会健康又可口,而且还能吃饱。
Hǎo le. Jīntiān de wǎncān jiāng huì jiànkāng yòu kěkǒu, érqiě hái néng chī bǎo.
Ok. Tonight’s dinner will be nice and healthy, but filling at the same time.
