Luxury life

Overnight queues, pandemonium, and even the odd punch-up – chaotic scenes played out across the country as a huge influx of shoppers, many from theFar East, flooded the Boxing Day sales.

Some of the shoppers, many of whom travelled to theUKespecially for “sales holidays” fromChina, the Middle East,RussiaandNigeria, had been queuing from as early as 11pm on Christmas Day.

As the doors opened at 9am at Selfridges in London, security guards urged them to “keep calm”, shouting “there are old people and children in the queues, please stop pushing” and “take your time, you will all get in, don’t panic”.

Manic bargain hunters were seen grabbing armfuls of £2,000 Prada, Gucci and Mulberry handbags and shoes and running to the tills to secure their purchases.

For the first time, uniformed police officers patrolled inside the store in a bid to deter shoplifters, pickpockets and gangs, which have previously targeted the sales.

Mandarin lesson in hong kong – Where Are We Going, Dad?

 Mandarin Lesson

Where Are We Going, Dad? presents a new generation of men who, in a break from Chinese tradition, now take an active role in their children’s lives.

Five celebrity fathers and their children traipse aroundChina, riding camels through the western deserts, fishing off the east coast, and selling vegetables for their bus fare home in remote southwesternYunnanprovince. One dad doesn’t know how to do his daughter’s hair, but give him a couple of episodes—he’ll figure it out. Another one must survive with his son for three days in the desert, where, because neither can cook, the two only eat instant noodles.

These story lines are part of Where Are We Going Dad? which, since its debut in October, has become one ofChina’s most popular television shows, averaging more than 600 million viewers each week (and more than 640 million downloads online). Sponsorship rights for the show’s second season sold for 312 million yuan (about $50 million), more than ten times higher than the rights to the first season. And searches for Where Are We Going Dad? turn up over 40 million hits onSina Weibo,China’s Twitter.

What accounts for the show’s popularity? The show features a new generation of Chinese fathers, who, as part of the country’s burgeoning middle class, have faced more exposure to modern child-rearing techniques such as taking an active role with their children.

Chinese language study HK -Most extreme toilets

Mandarin Lesson

This loo with a view has been voted the most extreme place to do your ablutions in the world.

The toilet serves a remote weather station at Kara-Tyurek in theAltai Mountainsand it is perched on a cliff 2,600 meters above sea level.

Plucky staff who work at the station are visited once a month by a postman who collects weather data, and a helicopter which delivers food, water and wood for the stove each autumn.

But they have to be very daring indeed to use the terrifying toilet and will surely try very hard to go as little as possible when manning the remote station.

People have been using the precarious potty since 1939. A recent survey of unusual toilets around the world found the Altai privy to be the number one most extreme toilet.

Other toilets with star quality were also named in different categories in the survey.

The most expensive loo was named as theSwissHornGoldPalaceinHong Kongwhich is made from three tons of gold and took several years to assemble.

A spokesman for Interfax News Agency, which conducted the survey said of the Altai toilet: ‘The toilet is perhaps the most unromantic place possible, but there are some parts of the world where people have made them something really special.

‘This Siberian commode was listed as the ‘most extreme’ in the world where the fear evaporates only after years using it.’

Mandarin course hong kong – Today things to do today

Mandarin Lesson

There is an old Spanish Proverb which states, “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.” How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow? I’d say, way too many. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait. We have to go for them now! Here’s why.

Yǒu jù gǔlǎo de xībānyá yànyǔ: Míngtiān chángcháng shì yī zhōu zhōng zuì mánglù de yī tiān. Yǒu duōshǎo cì wǒmen céng bǎ mèngxiǎng tuōfù gěi míngtiān? Yào wǒ shuō, tài duō cì. Mèngxiǎng bù yìng děngdài, yě jīng bù qǐ děngdài. Wǒmen bìxū mǎshàng xíngdòng. Dàolǐ rúxià:

1. Tomorrow is not promised

Nobody likes to talk about death, but the reality is – everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know the day, or the hour. Therefore, today is all we have. Don’t go to your grave with unfulfilled dreams. Make the decision to go after every dream, big or small right now.

Míngtiān bù yīdìng dàolái

2. The world is waiting on your gift

I know this may be hard to believe, but the world is waiting on YOU! Yes, YOU! You were born into the world with a unique gift, which nobody on this earth can duplicate. Sure, other people may be able to sing. But they’ll never be able to sing exactly like you. Sure other people can write, but they’ll never be able to write from the same perspective in which you write. Don’t deprive the world of your gift. It’s the oxygen that we need to survive. Thus, it is your responsibility to figure out exactly what your gift is, and use to better your life and the lives of those around you.

3. Unless you take the first step, your dreams will never come true

You can dream about writing the great American play all you want, but it’s never going to happen unless you actually put pen to paper. You can dream about finding a cure for cancer, but it will never happen unless you actually go to school to become equipped with the necessary tools to find that cure. In other words, dreams don’t work unless you do. They require you to get your head out of the clouds, and actually do the work to make them happen. Get to it!

A new report shows that 64 percent of Chinese millionaires have either emigrated or plan to emigrate—taking their spending and fortunes with them. TheUnited Statesis their favorite destination.

The report from Hurun, a wealth research firm that focuses onChina, said that one-third ofChina’s super rich—or those worth $16 million or more—have already emigrated.

The data offer the latest snapshot ofChina’s worrying wealth flight, with massive numbers of rich Chinese taking their families and fortunes overseas. Previous studies show the main reasons rich Chinese are leaving is to pursue better educations for their kids, and to escape the pollution and overcrowding in urban China.

But analysts say there is another reason the Chinese rich are fleeing: to protect their fortunes. With the Chinese government cracking down on corruption, many of the Chinese rich—who made their money through some connection or favors from government—want to stash their money in assets or countries that are hard for the Chinese government to reach.
