learn mandarin hong kong – When Love Beckons You

Mandarin Lesson

When Love Beckons You

When love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to our roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

But if, in your fear, you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears. Love gives naught but it self and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.

Mandarin course hong kong – True happiness

 Mandarin Lesson

True happiness

The best type of affection is reciprocally life-giving, each receives affection with joy and gives it without effort, and each finds the whole world more interesting in consequence of the existence of this reciprocal happiness. There is, however, another kind, by no means uncommon, in which one person sucks the vitality of the other, one receives what the other gives, but gives almost nothing in return. Some very vital people belong to this bloodsucking type. They extract the vitality from one victim after another, but while they prosper and grow interesting, those upon whom they live grow pale and dim and dull.

Such people use others as means to their own ends, and never consider them as ends in themselves. Fundamentally they are not interested in those whom for the moment they think they love. They are interested only in the stimulus to their own activities, perhaps of a quite impersonal sort. Evidently this springs from some defect in their nature, but it is one not altogether easy either to diagnose or to cure. It is a characteristic frequently associated with great ambition, and is rooted, I should say, in an unduly one-sided view of what makes human happiness. Affection in the sense of a genuine reciprocal interest of two persons in each other, not solely as means to each other’s good, but rather as a combination having a common good, is one of the most important elements of real happiness.

Elevate mood

Although I’m all for indulging in activities to boost your mood, retail therapy is definitely a pricey way to do it. And it might make you feel worse in the long run if your shopping expedition makes a dent in your bank account. Here are some wallet-friendly ways to turn around a bad day:

1. Start planning a trip. Make a plan to take some days off and start researching destination ideas. Research has shown that planning and anticipating a trip has an even greater effect on happiness than the actual trip itself.

2. Make yourself a happy meal. A happy meal is basically comfort food you can make at home that will help you feel better.

3. Set a goal and accomplish it. Set a small and reasonable goal and complete it before the end of the night. It can be simple tasks like washing the dishes or finishing up two chapters of a mystery novel. You’ll feel better when you’re getting things done.

4. Do something nice for someone. Doing a nice act for someone can make you feel better, studies have shown. They can be small acts like sending an email to your best friend telling her how much you appreciate her, or making dinner for your partner.

5. Remember the good. Write out a gratitude list of things that you’re grateful for. Noting down a list of things that you are grateful for can renew your appreciation in things that you’ve been taking for granted. Writing a gratitude list will cause you to put more focus on the positive and less on the negative.

6. Remind yourself that this is temporary. I really love the mantra “This too shall pass” because it reminds us that everything — including positive and negative events — is temporary. In a few days, weeks, or years, you will probably get over it. All that matters is knowing that there is a day you will move on and to not invest so much energy in thinking about an event that’s temporary.

Americans spend more than $20 billion a year on supplements in hopes of staving off cancer, heart disease, and dementia. Trouble is, the latest research shows they provide no benefit — and they may even be hazardous to our health. But given our nutrient-deprived diets, should we really stop taking these pills altogether?

These are the startling findings of three articles just published in the highly influentialAnnals of Internal Medicine.

The researchers involved in the studies didn’t mince words; they’re concerned that people are spending too much money on pills that confer no benefit, and in some cases may even be harmful. What’s more, they even hinted that companies selling supplements are fueling health anxieties to offer unnecessary cures.

To reach these conclusions, an international team of researchers conducted three different studies.

The first was a study that looked at the consumption of a daily multivitamin to preventcardiovascular disease and cancer in more than 450,000 participants. These pills had nodiscernible effect on mortality.

Instead of popping vitamins and minerals, the experts recommended that people should eat more fruits and vegetables, reduce trans fat, saturated fat, and salt, reduce calories, and increase physical activity.

Mandarin lesson in hong kong – Noticing your age

 Mandarin Lesson

Noticing your age

When do you feel like you are getting older?

Is it when the songs you liked when you were young are now considered all this but good east to the next generation?

When I was younger, I rarely liked classic music or jazz.

Now I do. Does that mean that I’m getting older?

Have you noticed that an actor or an actress that you’ve liked for a long time is getting a lot of wrinkles or gray hair?

Do you notice your age when you are with others like at a reunion of some kind?

Do you notice your age when you are looking in the mirror?

Does that scare you?

Do you find that the kind of clothes you like are thought of the clothes for a matureperson?

I respect people that age gracefully.

It seems like that many people fear getting older.

They don’t want the wrinkles to show.

I have to confess I have a few gray hairs.

Oh, NO! Even though the body may get old,

I think people can be young at heart.

My father fits right in when he plays with his grandkids.

It’s not awkward at all.

He comes up with the best games.

He may not be able to jump on the bedlam as the kids do,

but he can wrestle and dance and go for walks and play catch.

His mind is deep and his heart is warm.

I hope I age gracefully like dad.
